  • There are three official religions in Albania: Muslim, Orthodox and Catholic. Under the Roman Empire the practised religion was Catholicism, which survived only in Northern and Northwestern part of Albania. Under the occupation of the Ottoman Empire, Islam was introduced and soon became predominant.After the Communist Era, during which atheism was enforced, the religious life has experienced a full revival.
